Delegation of Russian athletes visits Senegal and The Gambia
From 18 to 21 May, a delegation of Russian athletes consisting of world champion swimmer, Honoured Master of Sports of Russia Andrey Arbuzov and silver medallist of the Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo Alexander Krasnykh visited Senegal and The Gambia.
The trip to Africa was organised under the auspices of the First Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, Odes K. Baisultanov, with the support of the Russian charity foundation «Adansonia».
During their visit to Senegal, the Russian swimmers donated children's football uniforms, notebooks and teaching aids to the Senegalese sports school «Unifoot», held a meeting with Professor Ndiai Magatte, Rector of Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, and organised an open lesson in the university's Olympic pool for the university's swimming team.
In The Gambia, the Russian athletes met with Mr. Musa Mbaye, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of The Gambia, visited the Banjul SBEC International School, where they organised a swimming lesson for local schoolchildren.
The Russian Embassy to Senegal took an active part in preparing and organising the visit of the Russian champions. Ambassador Dmitry Kurakov personally accompanied the athletes on their trip and took part in meetings with officials. With the support of the head of the diplomatic mission, agreements were reached to hold swimming competitions in the swimming pool of the University of Saint-Louis, based on the results of which the best local swimmers will be able to visit Russia and take part in classes at Moscow sports schools.
